CRATER LAKE (September 2010) 7
The blue of Crater Lake never ceases to astound me. Even after looking at the photographs a dozen times I am transported to when I was standing there in awe. I think that is one of the reasons I like photography so much. I can see what others see and when it comes to my own photos the visual connects with the memory giving it more strength. Every photo I look at I can remember exactly what I was feeling at the time.
CRATER LAKE (September 2010)6
They have been doing controlled burning near Crater Lake….you can see the smoke in the photos I took across the lake…always something trying to cloud my blue skies! But as you can see it was a beautiful day!
LONESOME HICKORY
I have been driving past this Heritage tree for five years now and finally pulled the car over to investigate!
CRATERLAKE (SEPTEMBER 2010)
I woke up bright and early a few weekends ago and drove to Crater Lake. Last time I went was in June and there was so much snow still the lodge and visitors center were the only place that was plowed. I had to get up there before the snow fell again!
Only a few of the tourists were up and the lake was gorgeous…like glass the reflection so startling in the water I was worried I had vertigo no longer able to tell right way up.
Then you can see the very first boat leaving ripples in its wake…
you can see in this photo the difference between the reflections as the water is disturbed…
As I said there were not many tourists out and about yet so I walked the scenic little trails all along towards the lodge. As many times as I have been to Crater Lake I have never been to the lodge preferring the less trafficked areas.
As it turned out there were excellent photo opportunities (as if you couldn’t take beautiful photos at any point of the lake!)
I ended up climbing Garfield Peak which was a gain of a thousand feet….lots more photos to come!!
I AM SO NOT READY FOR FALL!!!
Where did this summer go….but I guess I have something to look forward to photographing. These early guys were residing in Bear Creek Park.
THATCHERS ORGANIC ARTISAN ELDERFLOWER LIQUEUR
My favorite liquor store, All Star (discount) on the coast started carrying a new line of liqueurs…about five flavors….it was hot at the time and I picked Elderflower it seemed like a refreshing drink for the hot September weather….The Moscato was recommended by my favorite wine store in Klamath Falls. I’m not much into sparkling wine sounds like something I would have drank in high school…cousin to Mad dog but as it turns out was quite lovely accompanied with the elder flower liqueur. Although the temperatures in Medford has plunged to the high sixties it was still a relaxing drink after my five mile walk.!
Next time I will try the chili pepper liqueur and the chocolate liqueur since that is by far my favorite chocolate bar! They also have a cucumber liqueur that will probably wait until next spring when I need refreshing rather than the warm comfort I crave in the cooler weather.
REDWOODS (Walker Road)
I never tire of the Redwoods been going there every month for about five years now…sometimes twice a month! Like all landscape forest or field it is constantly changing and never the same twice. This hike is from a bit ago but since I came back from Montana. I was exhausted but needed the exercise. My favorite breakfast place(Continental Bakery) in Crescent City was closed that morning so I grabbed a large coffee from a gas station and headed for the nearest trail. It was very early….not a soul around I found a bench and just sat and cried….stress from before and after vacation trying to get work done then get caught up again. I’m like a toddler when I don’t get my required sleep I get grouchy and have meltdowns!! At 45!! You can ask any member of my family!! Throw in pre-menopause and its a damn good thing I live alone!
It was a good morning and after the release of tears I had a lovely walk even with the lack of sunshine. Its harder to take good photos when the sun is hiding.
Of course I was delighted when I ran into one of my slug friends!
While it was over a hundred in Medford the fog had rolled in the night before and was now clinging to the trees….I took my sweet time in the Redwoods enjoying the cool.
ODDS AND ENDS OF MONTANA
Storm clouds rolling in
this one speaks for it’s self…
Frontier Days Parade in Whitehall….ladies of the evening greeting the morning
There were gigantic hail storms all around but all we suffered were some raindrops
and rainbows!
This turtle lives in the town fountain
along with a parade was an antique car show
I think the owner was trying to get a free looksie….
I had a great conversation with this woman before the parade. She was a great character and her horse had the most beautiful blue eyes! I tried to take a picture of his head but he is a very nervous horse. She tried to hold his head but he was having none of it. He wasn’t an unruly horse just liked to move his head
Cadillac of Daises.
This man is married to the cowgirl who had the blue eyed horse note taught his dog to ride the mule!
locals conversing before the parade
….meanwhile over in Butte. This is the mining museum. That I didn’t have time to tour…just picking up the wee ones from mining camp.
SUNSET OVER THE CRAZY MOUNTAINS
Most of these were taken in a moving car that I wasn’t driving…this was truly aim and shoot when I could!
OFF TO THE CRAZY MOUNTAINS!!!
This photo is not of the Crazy Mountains but a place I pulled over to refill my water bottle….its a lone photo that needs a home!
These are the Crazy Mountains. When I was in Columbus searching for my great-grandparents graves this very nice man Richard took me out to my Aunts old ranch and then when I inquired about places to hike in the area he took me to the Crazy Mountains…There are lots of trails but this one is to the waterfalls.
I found an excellent chapter on the folklore of the Crazy Mountains here.
it was close to five and while there was still a few hours of daylight at the time there was a storm blowing in hence the dark photos…also I’m not used to hiking with strangers so it was hard to get in the frame of mind to take good photographs. The mountains are truly amazing and I wish the photos were better…but these dark photos sort of reflect the name of the mountains.
This is Richard my tour guide!
WHEAT MONTANA
Great place to buy “real” (not Wonder knockoffs) bread!
my new coffee/tea/whiskey mug!
GECKOS IN MONTANA
While picking up children at a birthday party in Whitehall I got to see my first live geckos!
the kids had been catching grass hoppers to feed them…but while I was there they refused to eat!
