SUNFLOWERS
Finally some time to post. My sister and nephews flew in from Virginia for a visit. It was great to see them-blog took a vacation too! We traveled to Devi”s Tower, Deadwood, Mt. Rushmore, the Crazy Horse Memorial, Reed Point, Cody and Yellowstone. Lots of photos that need to be processed. These sunflowers were taken about a week before they arrived. I like to put up photos as they are uploaded otherwise I lose my place!
THESE FLOWERS LOOK HOW I FEEL THIS MORNING…
Actually they look like they just came back from a night on the town and are ready to crash….I fell that way except I didn’t even have the night on the town!

LAST OF YELLOWSTONE
I forgot to post these!
I have no idea what all the flowers are in Yellowstone but flowers no matter where they root are each a delight!
Big elk!
Leaving the park through the West entrance and heading towards Quake Lake
WHITE FLOWERS
I loved these funny white flowers but they were growing in a marsh disguised as grass! One step near them and you sink in. I had to lay on a log and zoom in to get the photos!
FAIRY FALLS
Fairy Falls is a very popular hike and even though I got there early there was already another car in the parking area . By the time I got back the parking area was full and people were parking on the side of the road. This is a nice hike on a well maintained trail and starts with a walk around a geothermal area. If I remember its about 2 1/2 miles to the falls.
What my hiking book didn’t tell me is that its better to hike later in the day when the sun can shine on the falls.
YELLOWSTONE MORNING
There are from the second morning in Yellowstone, flowers, grazing elk and buffalo, the geothermal pools…great way to start the day!
DRIVING AROUND YELLOWSTONE
I wanted to take roads that I had not been on before so off I went. The park has numerous scenic side roads or loops less traveled perfect places to fly fish or picnic. The mosquitoes are numerous this year with the extra rainfall….
There is no such thing as too many buffalo…but then I still get excited when I see cows!
This guy was scratching his head on the tree….
There wasn’t this much water at the falls last year!
SUNSET AT WEST YELLOWSTONE
After securing my tent for the predicted hail storms I headed to photograph the sunset. This is a meadow not far from my campsite…
As I drove into West Yellowstone there were beautiful fields full of wild flowers so I headed back to photograph them when the light would be more interesting….my filter accidentally went through the washing machine so there are lots of pretty light distortions…NOT ORBS!
The Madison River
back at my campsite….
MADISON RIVER
Three days in Yellowstone and over 600 photos not including the ones I deleted. These are of my Thursday night walk along the Madison River which isn’t too far into the park I didn’t spend too much time as I wanted to set up my tent to survive the serious storms that were predicted but didn’t show up. Double staked it and tied it down. If I hadn’t then the storm would have come!
I wasn’t here five minutes when my bear spray fell into the river and started floating away. Damn I have to get new bear spray! then I thought That’s 40 dollars…..so I jumped in and chased it down. Luckily the water didn’t affect the Nike+ in my shoe.
I love these giant thistles!
BIGHORN CANYON
I went for a mystery ride outside of Lovell after work and ended up here. A nice hike in the high desert followed! This canyon is were the Pryor Mustang herd resides hopefully by the end of the summer I will find them!
FIRST NIGHT OF CAMPING (this year 2)
The ranger said the reservoir was only half full. They had released a lot of water in anticipation of the snowpack melting…they are still waiting and its the middle of June!
I found a road that went straight up the mountain great workout but I didn’t get too far up it-the silver speck is my car
This is where I stopped…rested and went back down. On trails like this going down is harder! There were horse tracks everywhere I would be scared to death riding a horse down this. I slid lots of times on the loose rock!
Ain’t it pretty?
FALL IN MEDFORD
Still some flowers blooming!
Main St. passing under I-5…
Bear Creek running along I-5…
Old Town Medford
painted murals on a building for lease…
The chess player has been gifted with a rose…
church doors…
OFF TO THE CRAZY MOUNTAINS!!!
This photo is not of the Crazy Mountains but a place I pulled over to refill my water bottle….its a lone photo that needs a home!
These are the Crazy Mountains. When I was in Columbus searching for my great-grandparents graves this very nice man Richard took me out to my Aunts old ranch and then when I inquired about places to hike in the area he took me to the Crazy Mountains…There are lots of trails but this one is to the waterfalls.
I found an excellent chapter on the folklore of the Crazy Mountains here.
it was close to five and while there was still a few hours of daylight at the time there was a storm blowing in hence the dark photos…also I’m not used to hiking with strangers so it was hard to get in the frame of mind to take good photographs. The mountains are truly amazing and I wish the photos were better…but these dark photos sort of reflect the name of the mountains.
This is Richard my tour guide!
