TOU VELLE THREE

TOU VELLE TWO

You would think since it was Thanksgiving Day and freezing that the park would be empty but not so. There were at least 10 fly fishermen actually standing in the freezing water! I had on five breathable layers on top and it took about a half mile of running to get warmed up. Then when I would stop to take pictures or switch to walking for too long I would start to get cold again. Near the end of my excursion it had warmed up a few degrees but not enough for me go stand in water!

I will have to come back in springtime when things are green. It is pretty now but in the spring with the flowers in bloom…

Mt. McLaughlin..

This is a big marsh in spring time…

The Rogue River you can barely see them but there are two men fishing in the river.

a little closer…

Another man fly fishing…the dry riverbanks are right there why stand in the cold water??? I secretly admire people who do crazy things!

You can reserve picnic areas…

Seriously who leaves their business card in an outhouse??

That is Table Rock Road

Ice formation looks like a…

I’m not sure why this is here looks like a trap of some sort.

FISH PORN

I’m kidding…it’s the Cole M. Rivers Hatchery…observation Spawning room…and restrooms…hmmmm

and televised!

some of the fish “cradles”…

I guess if you fall in you grab onto that rope so you don’t go down the spillway….

Not sure how they get past this dam….I need to go back when the hatchery is open they are quite nice and seem more than happy to answer the same question they have been asked a hundred times before!

Here is one of the boat ramps although at this time the area is filled with fisherman they line up along the river at the hatchery and try to catch them as they go by the narrow spillway. There are usually fish and wildlife people there to check for licenses….then there are the few fly fisherman who actually stand in the river….picture too blurry to post

MCGREGOR PARK

Right below Lost Creek Reservoir the Rogue starts up again and passes through this cute little park with trails and picnic tables…there is even a playground and nature center.

It was a raining on and off but I was having a rough week and needed to get the hell out of my house….went running until almost 8:00pm. But that is another story I may or may not post on later…

These were like some diseased or deformed oak leaves….only one branch was like this…too cool looking for me to pass up!

I wish this photo had turned out  better….this little pond is soooo cute! The problem is that I’m running I see something and stop to take a photograph….and don’t always hold still enough. Probably due to me trying to catch my breath!

This is my current desk top background…I change them quite often with all of the photos I take.

Still trying to avoid going home I headed to Cole M. Rivers Hatchery which was down the road…next post

ANOTHER MELANCHOLY DAY IN OREGON III

ANOTHER MELANCHOLY DAY IN OREGON II

My friend Willy Whitefeather says you shouldn’t complain about the weather….its doing what its supposed to be doing….that we shouldn’t criticize or wish for something else….we just might get it!! So in the spirit of that I’m thinking that while the gray skies match my mood eventually it will change for the better and the experience of sun and blue skies will be that much sweeter….

But even the dark clouds and swelling river are beautiful…and the green moss particularly stands having no other colors to compete!!

ANOTHER MELANCHOLY DAY IN OREGON

These were taken on the Rogue River by Gold Hill.

WHISKY CREEK TRAIL

That there is my kind of trail!

Past Merlin and Galice  on a trail that runs along the Rogue River is Whisky Creek Cabin. When I moved back to Oregon I was blissfully hiking all the time. Unaware of my surroundings soaking up the beauty of nature thinking about my life….One day I stopped at this trail after work for a good hike.

Traipsing away in La La Land where I often reside, I noticed a huge pile of shit with a bunch of berries on the trail and thought wow that person really had to go! The trail runs along the Rogue and most of the time there is a steep canyon wall on the otherside so if you really had a bowel emergency…..WELL YOUR SHIT OUT OF LUCK. Pun intended. A little later there was another pile of shit with lots of berries…and another…and another….finally it dawned on me that it had to be an animal relieving it self along the trail and since it was so huge I was hoping it wasn’t a bear. Of course I usually hike alone without a gun or pepper spray and reside in La La Land the happy happy place I frequent.

Eventually I get to the part where there is a campsite and…….

I FIND THIS!!!!

A FUCKING BEAR EXCLUSUION????? WHAT THE HELL IS THAT???

A FUCKING BEAR EXCLUSION? WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?????

Seriously here is a close up.

They have got to be joking… If I ever go camping here never mind about putting my cooler in there…………..

I’M SETTING UP MY FUCKING TENT!!!!

But being the sort that doesn’t like to abandon a hike I had to go on to Whisky Creek Cabin.

A CROSS ON ROGUE RIVER

CHARCOAL SKETCH OF CROSS ON THE ROGUE RIVER

CHARCOAL SKETCH OF CROSS ON THE ROGUE RIVER

Once upon a time I drove past Merlin, Oregon to the Rogue River  in an attempt to escape my brother’s rabid girlfriend. Frustrated with a  bad year in Pahrump Hell and a disastrous move  back to Oregon (all is well now!) I needed to  be by myself, do some thinking  and meditating. I sat by the rivers edge for several hours. At one point I looked up and across from me on the other side of the river was a cross up on a rock formation. I had not remembered seeing it earlier. When I saw the cross I knew that everything would be alright. I drew a picture of it and was so angry, frustrated, and scared I tore a hole in the paper on the bottom right corner. I spent that day alternately cursing and praying.

CHARCOAL SKETCH I DID THE SAME DAY OF A BRIDGE OVER THE ROGUE RIVER.

CHARCOAL SKETCH I DID THE SAME DAY OF A BRIDGE OVER THE ROGUE RIVER.

The next day I went back and there was no cross. I thought I had lost my mind because I had sat and drawn a picture of it. I climbed back up the bank of the river and turned to look one last time, there it was only further down and closer to the tree in the sketch. You couldn’t see it while sitting by the river because of the rock formations.

The thing about God is that he/she/energy is always there. No reverence required the only thing in life you can trust no matter how much you scream, lament, curse, shake your fist at….God is greater than that and as I read recently in THE SHACK it doesn’t really matter what path you choose in life he will be be there.

THE LIVING TREE STUMP AT THE ROGUE GORGE

Went on a hike yesterday on the upper Rogue Gorge and that area can’t believe how much snow their still is! The first stop was the Rogue Gorge because it rained a lot last week and the snow is still melting the river was full!!!

I love trees they are amazing!!!

I CAN'T BELIVE HOW MUCH SNOW THERE WAS!!!

I CAN'T BELIVE HOW MUCH SNOW THERE WAS!!!

Beyond this snow is a meadow/marsh where elk were grazing and my brother and I were trying to sneak up on them to take pictures…I don’t know how successful the pictures will be since I have to wait to get them developed. It was funny because a crow alerted them of our presence and one of the elk took off the meadow is in a horse shoe shape wrapping around a hill. Then the crow flew and told the other elk on the otherside that we had arrived. To make it worse we climbed up this big hill trying to find them but apparently they had been watching us and laughing because when we went back down they were all back in the field!!! This time we snuck from tree to tree and tried to be quiet….impossible for me since I am about as quiet as a lumbering water buffalo!!! I hope some photos turn out but I never got that close I was using a telephoto lens!

The joke of it all was on me who ended up getting soaked feet from crossing the marsh luckily I always keep about five extra pairs of socks in my car and a pair of shoes…

I WANT TO BELIEVE IN ORBS!

I am always hearing that with the invention of the digital camera people are capturing these ORBS that for the most part look like rain drops on a camera lens. Two years ago I was hiking along the Rogue River Gorge on a beautiful autumn day with my Minolta aim and shoot FILM camera. When the pictures were developed this was in them.

MY ORB PHOTO

MY ORB PHOTO

Let me clarify my photography experience. I have no idea how film is developed except for dropping it into an envelope at Costco and picking it up an hour later. So maybe there is a perfectly reasonable explanation that this could have happened while being developed.

I do not own Photoshop only the free HP stuff that came with my printer/scanner/copier. The ONLY editing done to my photographs is that I have to crop many of them because for some reason I can never get them lay on the glass perfectly straight.

But then again maybe it is some other worldly energy that is going to save the planet from our destruction! Or at least ME!!!!

I have other strange photos but you all just might think me a tad off!!!

Also for those of you who know why this showed up in my picture just go ahead and tell me….I remember the shame of being the last person in grade school who was gullible enough to still believe in Santa Clause!!!
