BODIE

Bodie is an old mining ghost town in the California Sierras…I loved it and it has been the inspiration for a few paintings

HIKING IN THE SIERRAS V

These are more photos of what is above the waterfalls. I had imagined a great big lake surrounded by a meadow with elk and deer grazing

ScannedImage-102

Yep that’s a damn dam.

ScannedImage-103

ScannedImage-104

The reservoir.

ScannedImage-105

When my skateboarding guitar and drum loving nephew who had declared he hates nature came out west he was in awe of how much bigger everything is out here. The mountains the skies the valleys…it humbles you while filling you with possibilities and a sense of something that you can’t quite grasp..something within us that we have not recognized previously, something that might make us be able to take in and expand that we just might be a part of such greatness. I never really felt that way on the east coast.

ScannedImage-92

I have to make my way back to the tracks in order to get up the mountain to see where those falls come from

ScannedImage-86

Exhausted and resting…..

ScannedImage-87

Even the in shape hikers struggle with this….but they left me in the dust!!

ScannedImage-90

Can you believe there was a trail going up here the whole time??? That’s what I get for not stopping at the visitors center!

ScannedImage-91

There is fairly new horse shit on this trail apparently very brave people actually go trail riding on this?? I have heart failure just thinking about it! What if the horse spooks or steps in the wrong place…They aren’t like humans they can’t see where they are putting their feet…

HIKING THE SIERRAS I

You all are going to probably get tired of these photos of a hike in the Sierras…I was a bit too out of shape to be on this particular as I was in much pain when I got back.

ScannedImage-60

That waterfall at the top of the photo are what I am trying to get to….actually my goal is to hike above them.

ScannedImage-57

That’s my brother…I’m gonna take a different route that is a little more safe…

ScannedImage-63

Finally got some where…

ScannedImage-62

ScannedImage-64

This was a very nice tree where I rested and drank lots of water…I’m trying to get to some old tram tracks

ScannedImage-65

Finally!…looking down. You can’t really go straight up from but bottom because its private property….no tresspassing. I don’t think that they  really care its for legal reasons.

ScannedImage-66

Need to start climbing

ScannedImage-68

Thank God it leveled off!!

ScannedImage-71

There is a creek that runs through here from another waterfall…finally some shade

ScannedImage-69

A long way to go still

ScannedImage-70

some of the sights

ScannedImage-72

More tomorrow
