MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS 4
Last of the Mammoth photos…
Another hat!
I had lunch here so I could recharge my battery. It looks fancy but its really fast food I had a cheeseburger and icecream! I splurged on carbs after all the hiking I did…
The elk own the town!
This isn’t in Mammoth Hot Springs but on the way back to my campsite. Below are photos of the mountain range…
MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS 1
Mammoth Hot Springs are not what they once were….most of them have stopped flowing but there is still beauty in the terraces after the water is gone.
This is a windy area and people lose their hats! I had my new cowboy hat on and even with the string it started to fly a few times. The good thing about a string on my hat is that I can hold the string to keep it on instead of the obvious hand to the hat maneuver.
Another hat!
More to come!
HEADING TO MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS
I had not been to Mammoth Hot Springs yet so….off I went (avoiding the scary pass to Tower Falls….
Well its hard to see it in this photo but there is a little puff where the gas escapes from the side of the mountain
I stop for every one I see and introduce myself!
The valley is beautiful….
This was the scary part I didn’t know about but I talked my way through it…you have a small car….there is plenty of room….you have never driven off a cliff before…..in statement analysis the third person language would indicate a removal of myself from the events!
It sure was pretty though!
FIRE LAKE DRIVE
Fire Lake Drive is a loop off of the main road…with more geothermal pools!
Buffalo chips!
WHITE FLOWERS
I loved these funny white flowers but they were growing in a marsh disguised as grass! One step near them and you sink in. I had to lay on a log and zoom in to get the photos!
FAIRY FALLS
Fairy Falls is a very popular hike and even though I got there early there was already another car in the parking area . By the time I got back the parking area was full and people were parking on the side of the road. This is a nice hike on a well maintained trail and starts with a walk around a geothermal area. If I remember its about 2 1/2 miles to the falls.
What my hiking book didn’t tell me is that its better to hike later in the day when the sun can shine on the falls.
GREEN SPRING
I was heading for Mammoth Hot Springs when I saw the sun shining on this magnificent gem. I had to find a place to leave my car and walk back. The only problem with that is when you pull your car to the side of the road everyone else does to because they think that you are pulling over for wildlife. That happens to me a lot because most of the photos I take are not of the wildlife but of things like this…
I would have like to follow it but I left my bear spray in the car!
YELLOWSTONE MORNING
There are from the second morning in Yellowstone, flowers, grazing elk and buffalo, the geothermal pools…great way to start the day!
MY FIRST GRIZZLY SIGHTING
No I wasn’t hiking but hiding behind my car using my zoom. The bear looks small but there were a couple of times he had no problem lifting those logs to search for grubs or whatever lies below then at one point he took off running. FAST. I could see myself not having time to grab my bear spray if I was surprised by one….
OLD FAITHFUL AREA
The geyser landscape…
This is Old Faithful from a distance…I couldn’t find the patience to sit and wait with the other tourists for it to blow. There is a very nice trail that is around five miles that visits every geyser in the area…there are a lot. It was around 6 in the evening and I was exhausted from a bad night of sleep, getting up up at 5 to be in the park at sunrise and hiking about 10 miles already. I missed about a mile of the trail. Its probably beautiful at sunset but I had to start heading back.

HEADING TOWARDS OLD FAITHFUL
This post doesn’t actually have any photos of Old Faithful but of the trails and geyser’s around it.
The first two are of the Yellowstone River…..
This is Yellowstone Lake…..
I have no idea what this cute little critter is…
I love the landscape designs around the geysers and geothermal pools…
BUFFALO HERD
Like I said I never get tired of the buffalo! I sat for an hour in the meadow and photographed them crossing the road. I just love the babies…
DRIVING AROUND YELLOWSTONE
I wanted to take roads that I had not been on before so off I went. The park has numerous scenic side roads or loops less traveled perfect places to fly fish or picnic. The mosquitoes are numerous this year with the extra rainfall….
There is no such thing as too many buffalo…but then I still get excited when I see cows!
This guy was scratching his head on the tree….
There wasn’t this much water at the falls last year!
